Son of Maj. Harold Cartwright and Mildred Frances Cartwright; husband of Loveday Elizabeth Cartwright, of Wimbledon, Surrey.

Mjr. Cartwright was commissioned in 1936 he served in Malta, and on the outbreak of war was with the B.E.F. in France. In 1944 he went to India and served with 2nd Battalion The Royal Berkshire Regiment in Burma. He fought with this regiment as a Company Commander at Mandalay Hill and was killed in action at Tamokso in March, 1945.
