Dysentery While Marching
Extracts from a recorded interview with
L/Cpl. William Joseph Lowe 14640525
.....Well
the worst thing was when we walked into Burma, we were walking in from about
the middle
of November, until we got hit. That was on Christmas day 1944.
.....When we walked in I had Dysentery real bad, twice while we were on the
move. Just imagine, your going in, you run out of the formation off the track,
get your kit off, and get back into after catching up, I mean you know it saps
your strength and your legs go on you.
.....Well you have to catch up, because if you
didn't you got left behind, you was on your Jack, (Jack Jones - Slang for on
your own, stranded). Because
there was nobody behind with a truck to pick you up.
