ERNEST WILLIAM FEREDAY
28TH MARCH 1916 - 24TH OCTOBER 1995
2nd Row more or less the same group
but include a staff Sergeant, a Regular. He stands on the extreme right.
Notice that they all wear medal ribbons, they all served during the war.
The next photo is the Guard Mounting Ceremony in the camp at Chickerell.
I am the Guard Commander, second from the left.
Bottom Left, first photo is the Regular Warrant Officer once more. Middle
photo is again the Regular Sergeant Major and me. The third photo is of
me supervising the issue of rations in the camp. It looks as if I have
my right hand in my pocket! I hope not! That was a crime for a soldier
to be seen with his hands in his pocket.
While we were at Chickerell camp, just outside Weymouth, we again had
an invitation to visit a destroyer down in the dock, this was at Portland
Bill. We went to sea for a short exercise and the top three photos are
of the destroyer...
[LS90-5] Next photo is on a Rifle Range on a week-end camp. The lads are
sitting there eating their rations they brought with them and chickens
from the local farm are waiting for any crumbs that may be available.
Now at this point, my army career, both Regular and Territorial Army experiences
came to a close. For several reasons I found it necessary to finish the
TA and in the very long period, after all the photo history of the family
exists in other albums. This album is dedicated to my Army experiences.
During this period, it was announced publicly, in the newspapers and on
the news media in general, that a lot of changes were going to take place
in the Regular Army. Units would be amalgamated with other units, the
choice of name were argumentative. The Royal Berkshire Regiment, that
is my old regiment, was virtually disbanded and amalgamated with the Wiltshire
Regiment. So as far as I knew the Royal Bershire Regiment no longer existed
and there were no reunions for the Royal Berkshire. As I was in touch
with several of my old comrades, who I have mentioned before, they eventually
found that there still was an OCA meeting (Old Comrades Association) taking
place at the Old Barracks, Reading and eventually finding out that the
next one, we all met there done so ever since.
